The Windsurf project's initial development phase began in 2012, led by principal designer and lead engineer Sam Dickinson and senior engineer David Forrest. At this point the project was under the banner of Swift TG Energy (Scotland) Ltd, a division of Swift Technology Group.
By 2021, Swift had invested £2.5M in the project. However, Swift shelved Windsurf that year to focus on its core business of aircraft development.
In 2022, Roth Group Ltd offered to restructure and invest in the project. In 2023, Roth Turbines Ltd was established via a purchase contract signed by Roth and Swift Technology Group, who continue to retain an interest in the project.
Under the leadership of David Morgan and an experienced management team, Roth Turbines Ltd has received additional investment. The business is now ready to deploy turbines worldwide in the near future.
Roth Turbines Ltd has identified the telecoms sector as a key area for development, due to the sector's commitment to green energy. The company is currently in talks with Europe's largest mobile network providers.
While the business's registered office is in Harrogate, development continues at its engineering facility in Edinburgh.
